Attention Deficit Disorder – or A.D.D. as it’s more commonly known can be really difficult on children and their parents. If it’s bad enough, it can affect the harmony of home-life as well as the ability for a child to make friends and complete homework.
Six percent of men in our country under the age of 20 take the drug Ritalin to treat this disorder. The number of people diagnosed in the U.S. has really shot up in the last decade. So far, it is unclear why so many people suffer from
A.D.D., however, research now points to a link between behavioral problems in kids and synthetic food coloring.
It’s quoted that “ Over 30 years ago, the late Dr. Ben Feingold, a pediatric allergist in San Francisco, shocked the nation when he claimed that his patients improved when he took food dyes and other ingredients out of their diets.” Many popular food options for kids contain food colorings and have subsequently been banned in Britain. The FDA has not banned these and other harmful foods on the market despite these findings. Some of these foods include sweet cereals, candy, gelatin type desserts and mostly all food packaging that has cartoons and child oriented pictures on the label of the box or package.
You can avoid feeding your child (or yourself for that matter) any of these harmful dyes and food colorings by sticking with a whole food diet and not buying foods that come in packages!
