Information on Chromium

Chromium is a mineral found in humans that enhances the action of insulin. Insulin is essential for the proper metabolism of protein, fat and carbohydrates.

Chromium can be found in many foods however most have only small amounts. Broccoli has the most with 11 micrograms per ½ cup serving. Other foods which all contain far fewer micrograms are grape juice, potatoes, garlic, basil, turkey breast and red wine. Diets high in simple sugar increase chromium excretion in urine and chromium content may also be reduced by infection, exercise, pregnancy and lactation.

Since adequate intake of chromium in adult men, age 19-50, is about 35 micrograms and for women in that same age group, is about 25 mcg, it is easy to see why chromium supplements are so popular.

Chromium supplements are sold in a number of formulas including chromium picolinate, chromium citrate, chromium vanadium and chromium chloride. Check out the wide variety of Chromium supplements at www.everythingantiaging.com
