There has recently been a “breakthrough” or discovery made concerning future health for middle aged people to protect themselves. These findings and discoveries are definitely worth taking into consideration.
1. Vitamin D and Calcium
It’s true; people need the recommended intake of
vitamin D and calcium. Exercise is also critical for the health of older people. It strengthens bones and muscles, which prevents falls and accidents. This will obviously prevent fractures and injuries associated with falling. Some food sources to get calcium: dark green veggies and greens, orange juice that is fortified, low fat hard cheeses, milk, yogurt, and sardines.
2. Choline
Choline is a B vitamin and has just within the last ten years been noted as an essential nutrient. You’ll want
choline for optimal brain and liver performance. It can even prevent cardiovascular disease and cancer; as some people age, their intake requirements can drop as well. Good food sources for choline are: wheat germ, liver and egg yolks.
3. Eye Nutrients
If you want healthy
eyes you’ll need phytonutrients such as lutein and zeaxanthin. It’s been proven to decrease the risk of macular degeneration- otherwise known as irreversible blindness. Taking vitamin C, E and zinc supplements can help prevent cataracts and protect the eyes from the sun’s damage as well.
4. Prescription Drugs
There are certain prescription drugs that can cause significant weight gain. Diabetes medications, high blood pressure, heart medications and steroid medications can all lead to unwanted weight gain. To combat this, ask your doctor about alternative medications that can treat the condition but won’t induce weight gain. Be sure to check your diet and exercise as often as possible.
